~ In a joint announcement today, Governor Greg Abbott and the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) revealed that the second unit of the Timmerman Peaker Power Plant in Maxwell is now fully operational, a month ahead of schedule.

Governor Abbott expressed his satisfaction with the progress being made in adding power to the state grid, stating that LCRA's investments in generation through the Texas Energy Fund will help ensure reliability for all Texans. He also emphasized the importance of fortifying the state's ability to power homes and keeping Texas moving forward.

LCRA Board of Directors Chair Stephen F. Cooper echoed this sentiment, emphasizing their commitment to supporting the power grid and ensuring that Texans and Texas businesses have access to reliable power when they need it. He also highlighted the plant's ability to provide power within minutes on even the hottest summer days or coldest winter nights.

Jim Travis, LCRA acting general manager and chief financial officer, noted that with Texas' economy continuing to thrive, there is a growing demand for additional reliable power. He expressed pride in LCRA's contribution to meeting this demand by doubling the output of the Timmerman plant and bringing its newest unit online ahead of schedule.

The Timmerman Power Plant, which runs on natural gas, will provide 380 megawatts of dispatchable power to the Texas grid. This is enough to power over 100,000 homes during periods of peak demand. The groundbreaking ceremony for this project took place in April 2024, with Phase 1 becoming commercially operational in August 2025. Now, Unit 2 has joined it as part of LCRA's efforts to support Texas' growing energy needs.

This milestone marks an important achievement for both LCRA and Texas as a whole. The Timmerman Power Plant is not only providing much-needed power but is also setting an example as the first project supported by the Texas Energy Fund to come fully online. With continued investments and advancements in energy generation, Texas is well-equipped to meet the demands of its thriving economy and growing population.
