Texas: Governor Abbott, HHSC Announce $56 Million In Federal Funding For Rural Health Care Providers To Modernize Equipment, Infrastructure
Rezul News/10734134
~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will be providing $56 million in federal funding to rural health care providers. This grant opportunity is part of the Rural Texas Strong plan and aims to assist health care providers in updating critical equipment and infrastructure.
According to Governor Abbott, it is crucial for Texas to meet the demand for high-quality and accessible health care throughout the state. He believes that this grant will give health care providers the chance to improve their facilities and equipment for the betterment of their community. The goal is to provide state-of-the-art treatment for all residents of Texas.
The initiative, called "Infrastructure and Capital Investments for Rural Texas," will allocate $56 million towards modernizing rural health care delivery by funding new equipment and minor renovations to facilities. This includes updating lab equipment, CT scans, ultrasound or mammography machines, as well as stretchers, wheelchairs, patient beds, telemetry units, nurse call systems, generators, defibrillators, crash carts, medication dispensing units, sleep labs, vital sign monitors, oxygen tanks and other necessary equipment.

Stephanie Muth, Executive Commissioner of HHS, believes that access to modern equipment can make a significant difference in how quickly and effectively patients can receive care close to home. She states that this initiative will equip rural providers with the necessary resources to keep services local and respond to community needs while also planning confidently for the future.
Licensed rural health providers are eligible to apply for funding through a competitive process. The deadline for applications is June 1st. The $56 million announced today is part of the $281 million first-year award received by HHSC from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Rural Health Transformation Program. This program is 100% federally funded and includes six initiatives aimed at providing funding to rural communities.
It is estimated that over five years, Texas will receive approximately $1.4 billion in federal funding through this program to support rural health care. However, it is important to note that federal funding is contingent upon meeting all applicable program requirements.
