Texas: Governor Abbott Directs State Health Agencies to Address Potential CCP-Connected Cybersecurity Risks
Rezul News/10729403
~ In a recent letter released by Governor Abbott, he has directed state agencies and state-owned medical facilities in Texas to address potential cybersecurity concerns linked to medical equipment manufactured in the People's Republic of China. The governor has expressed his concern for the safety and privacy of Texans, especially when it comes to their personal medical data.
Governor Abbott stated, "Maintaining Texans' physical security and protecting their personal privacy, especially personal medical data, is of paramount importance. I will not let Communist China spy on Texans." He has directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and public university systems to review their cybersecurity and procurement policies to ensure that proper safeguards are in place to protect Texans from data breaches.
This action comes after the Trump Administration's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released notices in January highlighting security vulnerabilities found in Chinese-manufactured patient monitoring devices. These risks include unauthorized access to protected health information remotely. Experts have also raised concerns about the proliferation of Chinese-manufactured smart medical devices across the healthcare system, posing a serious threat to data privacy.

Governor Abbott has been proactive in protecting Texans from hostile foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party. He has directed technologies to be added to the state Prohibited Technology list, signed a law banning hostile foreign adversaries from buying land in Texas, created the Texas Cyber Command - the largest state-based cybersecurity department in America - and issued executive orders GA-47, GA-48, and GA-49 specifically targeting Communist China.
With these measures in place, Governor Abbott is determined to safeguard Texans' private medical data and critical medical infrastructure from any potential threats posed by foreign entities. The governor's actions demonstrate his commitment to protecting his constituents' safety and privacy while staying vigilant against cyber threats both foreign and domestic.
