Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Six To Advisory Council On Emergency Medical Services

Governor Greg Abbott appointed Lauren Hart Day and Crissie Richardson and reappointed James M. "Mike" DeLoach, Brian Eastridge, M.D., Della Johnson, and Gerad Troutman, M.D. to the Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for terms set to expire on January 1, 2032. The Council recommends changes to the EMS/Trauma System to ensure that the community receives comprehensive and efficient emergency care.
Lauren Hart Day of Austin is the president of GoodBuzz Solutions. Day is also a partner of an equipment dealership in Central Texas. Previously, she was appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the Department of State Health Services Statewide Health Coordinating Council, and from 2017-2024 on the Texas Crime Stoppers Council. She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Women Communicators of Austin and a founding member of Grace Homeschool Co-op. Day received a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications from Abilene Christian University and a Master of Science in Public Relations and a Master of Arts in International Relations from Syracuse University.
Crissie Richardson of Salado is a registered nurse (RN) and the Regional Trauma Process Improvement Coordinator at Ascension Texas. She is the immediate past president of the Central Texas Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). She is an active member of the National ENA and Texas ENA, and has served in the roles of president, director, and pediatrics committee chair for Texas ENA. She is currently the government affairs vice-chair for Texas ENA and a member of the Texas Nurses Association, Texas Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the American Nurses Association. Additionally, she is an RN volunteer for Temple Community Clinic. Richardson received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and a Master of Science in Marketing from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

James M. "Mike" Deloach of Littlefield has had a more than 40-year career in public service, EMS, and leadership in West Texas. He currently serves as the Lamb County Judge. He is a certified paramedic and previously served in EMS service and as an instructor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) and as program director at South Plains College and Clovis Community College. He is president of the South Plains Association of Governments and the West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association and is a board member for Central Plains MHMR. DeLoach received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business from Wayland Baptist University and completed emergency medical technician training at the TTUHSC.
Brian Eastridge, M.D. of San Antonio is a professor and the Chief of the Division of Trauma and Emergency General Surgery at The University of Texas (UT) Health Science Center at San Antonio. Eastridge was an active-duty member in the United States Army and served as Trauma Medical Director for the Brooke Army Medical Center. He was appointed as the first Joint Theater Trauma System Director responsible for initiating a first of its kind, formal combat trauma system on the battlefield. Subsequently, he went on to serve as the Director of the Joint Trauma System (United States Army Institute of Surgical Research of the Army's Medical Research and Material Command,) and Trauma Consultant to the United States Army Surgeon General. For his military service in system development and improving combat casualty care, he was awarded the United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command Combat Casualty Care Program Award for Excellence. With six combat deployments, his military awards and decorations include the Combat Medical Badge, Combat Action Badge, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He is also a member of the prestigious Order of Military Medical Merit. Eastridge received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Eastridge entered the U.S. Army Reserve as a second lieutenant Medical Service Corps officer during medical school. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Maryland Medical System, then pursued fellowship training in surgical critical care at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Della Johnson of Mesquite is an RN and the trauma service manager at Parkland Health and Hospital System. She is a member of ENA and the Society of Trauma Nurses. Additionally, she is the director of the Rowlett Friendship Baptist Church Children's Ministry. Johnson received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Prairie View A&M University.
Gerad Troutman, M.D. of Lubbock is the associate chief medical officer for Global Medical Response and serves as the EMS medical director for Lubbock and Amarillo. He is a clinical assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at TTUHSC, is the EMS physician liaison to the American Ambulance Association, and past president of the Texas College of Emergency Physicians. Troutman received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Midwestern State University, a Master of Business Administration from West Texas A&M University, and a Doctor of Medicine from TTUHSC.
