Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Estes, Ward To State Board For Educator Certification

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed two new members to the State Board for Educator Certification. Cassidy Estes and Kathy Ward will serve on the board for terms set to expire in 2029 and 2031, respectively.

The State Board for Educator Certification is responsible for overseeing the certification, continuing education, and standards of conduct of public-school educators. With their extensive backgrounds in education and community involvement, Estes and Ward are well-equipped to take on this important role.

Cassidy Estes hails from Amarillo and currently works as an educator at Amarillo Independent School District (AISD). She is also a campus representative for the Association of Texas Professional Educators and the AISD Consultation Committee. In addition, she is an active member of Elevate Amarillo and Saint Stephen Church. Estes holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas State University.

Kathy Ward, from Plano, brings a wealth of experience to the board. She most recently served as an appointee on the State Commission on Judicial Conduct and was previously a Commissioner for Collin County Precinct 4 - the first woman to hold this position. With a background in special education teaching for Plano Independent School District, Ward also spent over a decade as a morning radio talk show cohost. She has been recognized for her volunteer work with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Special Olympics. Ward is also a recipient of the Class of 2025 Plano Women of Inspiration award and a graduate of Leadership Plano Class XIV. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from University of North Texas.

Both Estes and Ward have demonstrated their dedication to education through their careers and community involvement. Their appointments to the State Board for Educator Certification will undoubtedly bring valuable insights and contributions to this important role.
