Texas: Governor Abbott Amends, Renews Fire Weather Conditions Disaster Proclamation In December 2025

~ Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster in over 200 counties in Texas due to ongoing fire weather conditions. The proclamation, issued on August 10, 2025 and amended and renewed in subsequent proclamations, states that the increased fire weather conditions pose an imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that these dangerous fire weather conditions persist in certain counties across the state. In response to this ongoing threat, Governor Abbott has exercised his authority under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code to amend and renew the proclamation and declare a disaster in Andrews, Aransas, Archer, Armstrong, Atascosa, Austin, Bailey, Bandera, Bastrop, Baylor, Bee, Bexar and many other counties.

Under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has authorized the use of all available resources of state government and political subdivisions to cope with this disaster. This includes suspending any regulatory statutes or orders that may hinder necessary action in response to the disaster.

In accordance with Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has also authorized the suspension of any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement if they impede emergency response efforts by state agencies.

The proclamation also states that copies will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law. It is signed by Governor Abbott and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.

This declaration comes as a precautionary measure to ensure that all necessary resources are available to respond to any potential damage caused by these dangerous fire weather conditions. The governor urges all residents in affected areas to stay informed and follow any evacuation orders or safety precautions issued by local authorities.
