Terry E. Gunn Releases New Children's Picture Book A Silly DOG Named Klaus
Rezul News/10745587
NEW YORK - Rezul -- Is Klaus a silly dog, a sleepy dog, a messy dog, or something even funnier?
Young readers can find out in A Silly DOG Named Klaus, a cheerful new children's picture book by Terry E. Gunn. Created for children ages 2–6, the book follows an energetic Schnauzer whose bouncing, wiggling, zooming, and occasional mischief reveal a different side of his larger-than-life personality on every page.
Klaus certainly knows how to keep life interesting. He gets into strawberry jam and becomes a "jelly dog," chases his tail until he is a "dizzy dog," races through the park, rolls in the mud, sleeps until noon, hides beneath the bed, and even discovers what happens when a cat decides to chase him instead. The playful situations and repeating phrases give children opportunities to anticipate what comes next and participate in the fun during story time.
Behind the laughs is a warm celebration of the special relationship between people and their pets. As Klaus cycles through all the funny things a dog can be, the book ultimately arrives at the one description that matters most: when Klaus is with someone he loves, he is a happy dog.
Designed with toddlers and preschoolers in mind, A Silly DOG Named Klaus combines accessible language, playful word choices, colorful illustrations, and familiar canine behavior. Its repeating structure makes it especially suited to reading aloud and encourages children to listen, predict, respond, laugh, and use their imaginations along the way.

The inspiration behind Klaus is especially personal. The real Klaus entered Gunn's life in 2000 and became a beloved companion whose playful personality and devotion remained with her long after their years together. Gunn created the book as a way to keep his memory alive while introducing a new generation of children and Schnauzer lovers to the dog who inspired so many happy memories.
She remembers Klaus as a dog who loved chasing balls, playing in the park, and visiting Dog Beach, but says his most important role was much simpler: being the family's best friend.
That real-life affection finds its way into the closing pages, where the jokes and mischief give way to a tender reminder of the happiness that comes from simply spending time together. The result is a picture book that can spark plenty of giggles while also opening an easy conversation with young children about friendship, affection, individuality, and the many ways pets become part of a family.
