Surf the Greats Returns: Toronto Surf Brand Relaunches October 10 After 2025 Closure
Rezul News/10747793
Founded in 2014, the Great Lakes surfing brand begins a new chapter with an online apparel collection and a renewed focus on celebrating freshwater surfing culture and community.
TORONTO - Rezul -- Surf the Greats (STG), the Toronto-founded surf brand that helped introduce a generation of Canadians to Great Lakes surfing, is officially returning on October 10, 2026, with a new online apparel collection and a renewed commitment to celebrating the region's freshwater surfing community.
Founded in 2014, Surf the Greats grew from a passion for surfing the Great Lakes into a surf shop, school, and community hub. Through lessons, events, beach cleanups, and collaborations with local surfers and businesses, STG helped build awareness of the unique surf culture developing along Ontario's shores.
Following the closure of its original operations in 2025, Surf the Greats was acquired in 2026 by entrepreneur Kyle Kulhanek, who is bringing the brand back with a new business model designed to preserve its identity while creating a sustainable foundation for the future.

"Surf the Greats has always represented something bigger than a surf shop," said Kulhanek, the brand's new owner. "The response from the original community has been incredible. Our goal is to honor what Antonio, Lucas, and the community built while finding new ways to celebrate Great Lakes surfing and the people who make it special."
The relaunch begins with a collection of Great Lakes-inspired apparel and accessories, available online to customers in Canada and the United States.
Beyond apparel, the brand plans to rebuild its community presence through collaborations with local surfers, photographers, artists, and outdoor businesses. Future initiatives include sharing stories from the Great Lakes surfing community, publishing educational content, and highlighting the people and places that have shaped freshwater surfing.
While the original physical surf shop and school are not reopening as part of this launch, the new Surf the Greats aims to carry forward the community-focused spirit that made the original brand a recognizable name in Ontario's surf scene.
