Sterling Heights Introduces First-Ever Little Free Sled Library at Delia Park

~ A recent survey conducted by the City of Sterling Heights has revealed that residents are highly satisfied with the quality of life and city services in their community. The survey, conducted by ETC Institute, a national leader in local government research, was presented to the City Council on December 16, 2025.
The results of the survey showed that an overwhelming majority of residents, 83%, are satisfied with Sterling Heights as a place to live. Additionally, 78% of residents reported being satisfied with Sterling Heights as a place to raise children. These numbers are significantly higher than regional and national averages.
In comparison to other communities across the country, Sterling Heights performed exceptionally well in various service areas. The survey found that the city rated above the U.S. average in 39 out of 41 service areas. Overall satisfaction with city services was also rated 20% above the national average, while satisfaction with the value received for city taxes and fees was rated 21% above the U.S. average.

Residents also reported feeling safe in their neighborhoods and having positive interactions with city employees. Mayor Michael C. Taylor expressed his belief that these results confirm Sterling Heights as a great place to live and raise a family. He also acknowledged that the high ranking compared to other municipalities across the United States reinforces their focus on quality public services and placemaking.
City Manager Mark Vanderpool credited these strong survey results to the exceptional work of city employees. He also highlighted areas where they can continue to focus on improvement, such as increasing police visibility and enforcement of traffic laws, strengthening code enforcement for property maintenance, and improving city streets.
Compared to the previous survey conducted in 2021, notable increases in satisfaction were seen in library programs for children, library reference services, responsiveness and accuracy of city employees, and Sterlingfest Art & Music Fair.

The survey was distributed by mail and online to a random sample of residents, with 522 completed responses, exceeding the target sample size. The results carry a margin of error of ±4.3% at the 95% confidence level and reflect the city's overall population.
City leaders plan to use these survey results to set priorities, measure long-term trends, and ensure that Sterling Heights continues to deliver high-quality services that residents value.
