~ Tacoma, Washington - In response to worsening dry conditions and increased wildfire risk, Tacoma has been placed under a Stage 2 burn ban starting Monday, August 17, 2026. This decision was made in consultation with the Pierce County Fire Marshal and local fire chiefs.

The ban prohibits recreational fires and the use of portable fire devices with open flames. However, propane and natural gas barbecues are still allowed to be used during the ban. Barbecues that use charcoal, wood, or any other solid fuel are not permitted.

Violating the burn ban or burning illegal fuel can result in a citation from the Tacoma Fire Department and Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. It is important for all residents to comply with this order and immediately extinguish any illegal or unattended fires.
