Springfield: SPD Investigates Motorcycle Fatality at Kearney and National

~ SPRINGFIELD, MO- On July 11, 2021, a fatal motorcycle crash occurred at the intersection of Kearney and National. The Springfield Police Department responded to the scene at 5:07 p.m. after receiving reports of a motor vehicle crash.

According to the investigation, 36-year-old Thomas Witt from Springfield was driving a 2009 Yamaha R1 motorcycle east on Kearney when he collided with a southbound 2002 Pontiac Sunfire at the intersection with National. Despite lifesaving efforts, Witt was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.

The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, but they do not believe impairment played a role. This marks the ninth fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield this year.
