Springfield Police Investigate E. Chestnut St. Homicide

~ Springfield, Missouri - The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating a homicide that occurred on E. Chestnut St. in the early hours of May 20, 2021. According to a press release issued by the department, officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 3:34 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a subject lying in the roadway.

Upon arrival, officers found an 18-year-old male, identified as Bobby D. Gooch Jr., who had sustained a gunshot wound. Gooch was immediately transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Next of kin notifications have been made to Gooch's family.

At this time, no suspect has been identified and detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).

This tragic incident marks the tenth homicide in Springfield for 2021. The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available.
