Springfield: Criminal Charges Filed in W. Chestnut St. Homicide

~ Springfield, Missouri - On February 1, 2021, the Springfield Police Department received a call at approximately 6:13 p.m. reporting a shooting at 2808 W. Chestnut St. Upon arrival, officers found two adult males with gunshot wounds. One of the victims was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries while the other succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased victim was identified as Chandler Sweaney, a 23-year-old male from Springfield. His family has been notified of his passing.

After extensive investigation by the Springfield Police Department Violent Crimes Unit, three suspects have been identified in connection with the homicide. Paul Morales, 28 years old, Timothy Johnson, 32 years old, and Rickey Rose, 34 years old, all from Springfield, have been charged in relation to the incident.

On July 6th, 2021, the case was presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office and charges were filed against all three suspects. Morales has been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. Johnson faces charges of felony murder for death in attempted delivery of controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree assault. He also faces additional charges of armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. Rose has been charged with felony murder for death in attempted delivery of controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm.

All three suspects were already in custody at Greene County Jail for unrelated charges and are now being held without bond on these new charges.

The Greene County Prosecutor's Office reminds that these charges are merely allegations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
