Spokane: Washington Street to Close for Grind & Overlay Project

~ Next week, the City of Spokane will be implementing changes to traffic patterns on Washington Street as part of their ongoing grind and overlay project. According to Erin Hut, the Communications Director for the city, drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and remain alert for frequent traffic changes.

The construction work on Washington Street will result in closures between 8th Avenue and 6th Avenue starting on Monday, September 28. This closure will then expand to include the section between 8th Avenue and 3rd Avenue on Tuesday, September 29. However, Bernard Street/Ben Garnett Way will remain open to allow for patient access to the new Inland Imaging Breast Center.

The project includes various upgrades such as curb ramp replacements for ADA accessibility, stormwater system upgrades, and replacement of a water system distribution main. Due to an accelerated construction schedule, it is expected to be completed by the end of October.
