Spokane: Vehicle vs Bicycle Collision Sends 7-Year-Old to Hospital

~ A driver has been arrested for driving under the influence after being found impaired, according to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, the Public Information Officer for the Spokane Police Department. The incident occurred on June 22nd, 2026 at around 7:30pm at an apartment complex located on the north side of Spokane at 121 E Wedgewood.
The police were initially called to the scene due to reports of screaming and a child being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers discovered a seven-year-old with visible injuries from the collision. The child was quickly transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Upon contacting the driver of the vehicle, officers noticed signs of impairment and conducted an investigation. It was determined that the child had been riding a bicycle in the parking lot when they were hit by the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as 34-year-old Adrianna N. McConnell, had recently used drugs before getting behind the wheel.
McConnell was cooperative with law enforcement during the investigation and was subsequently taken into custody and booked into Spokane County Jail on one count of Vehicular Assault. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and highlights the importance of staying sober while operating a vehicle.
