Spokane: SPD Officer Reunites an 8-Year-Old Boy with His Bike After It Was Stolen

~ A Spokane Police Department sergeant was approached by a distressed father near River Park Square on the evening of August 20th, 2026. The father reported that his 8-year-old son's new bike and helmet had been stolen while they were at the mall. Despite being secured to a bike rack, the bike went missing sometime between their arrival at 5:45 PM and their discovery of the theft at 8:30 PM. The father explained that he had purchased the bike for his son after losing everything in the Spokane Complex Fires.

Upon reviewing surveillance footage, officers observed a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and face mask arriving on a different bike and taking the boy's red CO-OP brand bike. The responding sergeant immediately shared photos of the stolen bike with patrol officers for awareness.

The following day, on August 21st, an observant officer spotted the stolen bike near S. State St and W. Pacific Ave. After confirming that the serial number matched that of the stolen bike, he returned it to the young boy.

Unfortunately, despite these developments, the suspect responsible for the theft has not yet been located or identified. The SPD has released photos of an officer with the recovered bike in hopes of gathering more information from the public.
