Spokane: SPD Makes an Arrest in Yesterday's Early Morning Shooting

~ A man was found with apparent gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene after Spokane police responded to a shooting report shortly before 5 a.m. Nov. 2, 2026, near 3307 E. 55th Ave., police said.

Callers reported gunfire in the area and a victim on 53rd Avenue, according to a statement from Officer T. Leming, the department's public information officer. Police said initial information indicated the victim and suspect knew each other and had previous disputes.

The department's Major Crimes Unit investigated and identified the suspect as 25-year-old Modesto R. Briggs, police said. Briggs was later located and arrested with assistance from the department's SWAT team. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
