During the course, officers were introduced to the Dialogue Policing model and also attended a class on the perspective of community activists. This portion of the training included a Q&A session with local activists and members of the media. The class also focused on de-escalation techniques and science-informed crowd psychology.

To ensure that officers fully grasped the material presented, they took part in training scenarios that allowed them to practice their communication skills. At the end of the weeklong training, officers completed certification requirements to demonstrate their understanding of Dialogue Policing.

This event highlights the commitment of both Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and community members through effective communication strategies.
