Spokane: New Scam Targeting Families Of Out-Of-Custody Defendants
Rezul News/10738365
~ Spokane Municipal Court and the Spokane Police Department have issued a warning about a new scam targeting out-of-custody defendants. According to Communications Director Erin Hut, scammers are contacting defendants and their family members, demanding money before their first appearance hearings and threatening arrest if payment is not made.
The scammers have also been falsely claiming that the court is no longer using ankle monitors for pre-trial monitoring, but instead using bracelets that resemble Apple watches. However, Hut clarified that the Municipal Court still uses ankle devices for this purpose.

Hut emphasized that neither the Municipal Court, Pretrial Services, nor Community Justice Services will ever contact individuals and demand money or services in order to remain out of custody. She urged anyone who believes they have been targeted by these scammers to report the incident to law enforcement through Crime Check at 509.456.2233.
This warning serves as a reminder for individuals to be cautious of any unexpected calls or demands for money from unknown sources. The Spokane Municipal Court and Police Department are working together to investigate these scams and protect the community from falling victim to them.
