Spokane: Flags Lowered for Ryne Sandberg

~ Spokane, WA - In honor of the passing of baseball legend Ryne Sandberg, Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered all flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff. The decision was made to pay tribute to the Spokane native and Hall of Famer who passed away on Monday.

According to Erin Hut, Communications Director for the City of Spokane, Sandberg was a "hometown hero" whose impact extended far beyond his hometown. He was a former standout at North Central High School and left a lasting mark on the sport of baseball and all those who knew him.

In a statement, Mayor Brown expressed her condolences to Sandberg's family and acknowledged his significant contributions to the game. The flags will remain lowered until Thursday morning and the City is encouraging residents with flags outside their homes or businesses to join in this recognition.
