Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

~ Spokane City Council and City Employees Host Community Food Drive and Fundraiser to Support Local Programs

The Spokane City Council and City Employees are teaming up to make a difference in their community by hosting a food drive and fundraiser. The event will support two important programs, Zilch and Bite2Go, which aim to combat food insecurity in the area.

Lisa Gardner, the City Council Communications Director, expressed her gratitude for the initiative. "I am grateful for this work to address food insecurity. It's about more than meals, it's about dignity and stability," she said.

Council Member Paul Dillon also shared his support for the cause. "This effort will help support student retention, long-term community health, and help everyone thrive," he stated.

According to Bite2Go's website, one in five children in the region face the daily challenge of not having enough to eat. This can have a significant impact on their ability to focus and learn in school. The community is urged to join in ensuring that no child goes hungry by donating today.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to take advantage of this opportunity to give back while visiting City Hall. "If attending a City Council meeting isn't reason enough to visit City Hall, the opportunity to drop off needed items for our community should top that list," he said.

The food drive will run from October 15th until December 15th and will accept non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations. Drop-off boxes for shelf-stable foods can be found on the first, third, and seventh floors of City Hall, as well as in the Chase Gallery outside of the Council Chambers. Those who prefer to make financial contributions can do so by scanning a secure QR code that will directly benefit Bite2Go at 2nd Harvest.
