Spokane: 'Bike the Bridge' Ahead of Maple Street Reopening
Rezul News/10738776
~ Spokane, WA- The Maple Street Bridge, a vital transportation route for thousands of Spokanites, is set to reopen after undergoing extensive repairs. However, before the first cars are allowed to cross the bridge, Mayor Lisa Brown and the City of Spokane are inviting the community to experience it in a unique way.
On Thursday, June 25th from 4-6 p.m., residents are invited to participate in a special event called "Bike the Bridge." This two-hour event will allow cyclists, pedestrians, and other non-motorized forms of transportation to use the bridge before it officially reopens to cars. This initiative is in line with other community traditions such as Summer Parkways, which promotes multi-modal and human-powered transportation.

According to Mayor Lisa Brown, this event aims to bring the community together and provide them with a new perspective on the Maple Street Bridge. "The bridge serves as a crucial link for many Spokanites on their daily commute. Before it resumes its regular role, we wanted to create an opportunity for people to come together and see it from a different angle," she stated.
Cyclists and pedestrians can access the bridge from two points: W Dean Ave on the north side and W 2nd Ave/W Pacific Ave on the south side. Additionally, pedestrian access is available via N Ash stairs near N Maple St Parkway and W Riverside stairs on the south side. However, please note that the on-ramp at Riverside on the east side of the bridge will be blocked during this event.
This unique opportunity to bike or walk across one of Spokane's most iconic bridges is not one to be missed. So mark your calendars for June 25th and join Mayor Lisa Brown and fellow community members in celebrating this important milestone for Spokane's infrastructure.
