Registration to Open February 6 for Boston Parks Summer Sports Centers and Golf Lessons

Sports Centers ~ Boston residents, get ready to lace up your sneakers and hit the courts because registration for the city's Summer Sports Centers is opening on February 6 at 12:00 p.m. This year, the program will be offered at six different locations throughout the city, providing children ages 7 to 13 with free instruction in a variety of popular sports.

Parents can choose to register their children for just one week or for the entire summer. The program will run from July 6 through August 21 and is open to all Boston residents. To register, simply visit boston.gov/park-sports.

The East Boston Sports Center, located at East Boston Memorial Park on 143 Porter Street, will offer instruction in several sports including basketball, soccer, and tennis. Meanwhile, Garvey Park Sports Center at Garvey Playground on 340 Neponset Avenue in Dorchester will focus on baseball and softball skills.

In Mattapan, Hunt-Almont Sports Center at Hunt-Almont Park on 40 Almont Street will offer instruction in basketball and track and field. Over in Roxbury, Marcella Park Sports Center at Marcella Playground on 260 Highland Street will provide instruction in soccer and flag football.

For those living in Dorchester, Ronan Park Sports Center at Ronan Park on 92 Mt Ida Road will offer a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, and tennis. And finally, White Stadium Sports Center at Franklin Park Playstead on 450 Walnut Ave will provide instruction in track and field events.

It's important to note that lunch will be provided for participants but they must arrange their own transportation to and from the centers. Pre-registration is required for both individuals and groups.

In addition to the Summer Sports Centers, Boston Parks and Recreation is also offering two other programs for young athletes. Registration for Junior Golf Lessons at George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park opens on February 6 at 12:00 p.m. This program is designed for beginners and will provide instruction in the fundamentals of golf. Equipment will be provided and pre-registration is required for each week.

For those interested in a more intensive golf program, registration for the First Tee Spring Golf Lessons at William Devine Golf Course in Franklin Park opens on February 23 at 12:00 p.m. This program, offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Golf Association and the John D. Mineck Foundation, is open to children ages 7 to 17 and will be taught by PGA professionals. The sessions will run Monday through Thursday and are free for Boston residents.
