NJ real estate market continues positive trend despite pandemic

ISELIN, N.J. - Rezul -- Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, mortgage rates remain at record lows. The Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/10...) reports the average for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 2.81 percent, far below the 3.78 percent level a year ago. Mortgage rates have continued to fall since Spring, a result of the Federal Reserve intervening to stabilize the housing market. These low rates have contributed to the success of the New Jersey real estate industry over the last few months as New Yorkers flee to the suburbs.

"Since the pandemic began, the suburbs around New York City, from New Jersey to Westchester County to Connecticut to Long Island have been experiencing enormous demand for homes of all prices," said Matthew Hagg in the New York Times. "People in New Jersey suburbs who have no interest in putting their homes on the market are receiving unsolicited calls and knocks on the door from brokers asking if they want to sell."
