New Wave Of Independent Film: Aevolum Cinema Presents Returns With "Cornered", 30 Sept 2026
Rezul News/10742605
Surrey, UK — bringing award-winning short films to local communities.
SURREY, U.K. - Rezul -- Aevolum Cinema Presents returns to The Leatherhead Theatre on Wednesday 30 September 2026 with "Cornered", the latest evening in its touring programme championing a new wave of independent short filmmaking.
Thousands of award-winning short films are made around the world every year — recognised by BAFTA- and Oscar-qualifying festival juries, then quietly disappearing. They aren't on Netflix. They aren't in cinemas. They're rarely broadcast anywhere at all. Aevolum Cinema Presents exists to close that gap: a touring short film programme bringing award-winning films to local communities across the UK — historic theatres, country house hotels, acclaimed arts centres. Real rooms, real people.
The Leatherhead Theatre hosted the programme's premiere on 30 June 2026 with its opening evening, "The Choices That Shape Us"; September's return introduces a new theme, and four new films, to the same stage.

"Cornered" brings together four festival-winning shorts from a new generation of independent filmmakers working with total creative freedom and no commercial brief behind them: Pay Back (Steve Ramsden, UK), winner of three international awards including Best Thriller at Venice Shorts and Best Thriller Short at the LA Indie Short Fest; Ma Prison (Kitty Harper, UK), winner of five awards including Best Short Film at the Mindfield Film Festival in Albuquerque and Best Score at the Midlands Movies Awards; Five and a Half (Heidi Nyburg, USA), winner of 8 international awards including Best Director at the Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series; and Domino Springs (Dan Hertzog, USA), winner of 52 international awards across 26 festivals. Between them, the four films have been recognised on three continents — work that would otherwise never reach a UK audience outside the festival circuit.
"There's a new wave of talented independent filmmakers out there making bold, uncompromising work — often with no financial backing at all, and struggling to get it made," said Natalie Bark, founder of Aevolum. "Aevolum exists to give those filmmakers a platform. Aevolum Cinema Presents sees its mission in bringing films that have already been recognised by festival juries around the world into the rooms where the right audiences are waiting for them."
