New Boston Community Choice Electricity Rates, Providing Energy Savings to Residents and Small Businesses
Rezul News/10723357
~ The City of Boston has announced exciting news for its residents and small businesses. The Boston Community Choice Electricity (BCCE) program has introduced new electricity rates that will provide significant savings on energy bills. These rates, which went into effect this month, are lower than both current and upcoming rates from Eversource, the city's main electricity provider.
According to the city's press release, Boston residents who have enrolled in BCCE have been saving an average of $200 per year on their electricity bills since February 2021. This amounts to a total savings of nearly $260 million over the course of three years. The new rates will remain in effect for the next two years, providing continued relief for residents and small businesses.
The City is encouraging all residents and small businesses to check their electricity bills to confirm their enrollment in BCCE. Many residents may not be aware that they are paying too much for their electricity because they are receiving it from a third-party supplier. These suppliers often take advantage of low-income residents and people of color by offering low introductory rates and then significantly raising them later on, as well as charging high termination fees.

To ensure that all Bostonians are receiving the best possible rates for their energy usage, the City is offering assistance through its BCCE team. Residents can schedule an appointment, email BCCE@boston.gov or call 617-635-3850 to get help checking their energy supplier or enrolling in BCCE.
Mayor Michelle Wu expressed her enthusiasm for the new electricity rates, stating that they provide an opportunity for Boston residents to reduce their utility bills during a time when many families are struggling with affordability. She also emphasized that this program showcases how energy savings and bold solutions to combat climate change can go hand-in-hand in the city of Boston.
With these new electricity rates in place, the City of Boston is taking a proactive step towards promoting renewable energy and providing financial relief for its residents and small businesses.
