Naperville Police Investigate Shots Fired in the Downtown Area

~ Naperville Police Respond to Reports of Gunshots in Downtown Area
On Friday, April 17, 2026, at approximately 7:55p.m., officers on patrol in the downtown area of Naperville were alerted to what appeared to be gunshots coming from an alley near the 0–100 block of East Chicago Avenue. The officers immediately responded to the scene and witnessed several juveniles fleeing the vicinity.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered evidence consistent with gunfire during a search of the area. However, witnesses in the area reported hearing the shots but did not witness the incident itself. As of now, no victims have been identified and no property damage has been reported.

Several individuals were detained by officers in the immediate area as part of their investigation. After questioning, they were released. At this time, no firearm has been recovered and the investigation is still ongoing.
The Naperville Police Department is actively investigating this incident and following up on all available leads. They urge anyone with information related to this incident to contact them at 630-548-2955 or email NapervilleCrimeTips@naperville.il.us.
The department assures that they will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. The safety and security of Naperville's residents remain their top priority.
