Naperville Police Arrest Downers Grove Man Charged with Concealing Loaded Gun Under Occupied Child Car Seat
Rezul News/10726818
~ Naperville, IL- A Downers Grove man, Antoine Street, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning after being charged with multiple offenses including Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Resisting a Police Officer. The charges stem from an incident on February 3, 2026, where Street was pulled over by Naperville Police Officers for having active warrants out of Cook County.
During the traffic stop, officers noticed that Street was seated in the rear passenger seat behind the front passenger seat. Next to him was a child car seat with his one-year-old daughter sitting in it. When officers informed Street that he was under arrest and asked him to exit the vehicle, he resisted and had to be forcibly removed by officers.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a loaded 9mm Ruger pistol with one bullet in the chamber hidden under the child car seat where Street's daughter was sitting. The gun was less than an inch away from where Street was seated and pointed towards the driver's side of the vehicle. Additionally, officers discovered that Street was unlawfully in possession of approximately thirty-two grams of cannabis.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres held a joint press conference to announce that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted their motion to deny pre-trial release for Street. Both officials expressed shock and disbelief at the actions of Street.
"The very idea that someone would hide a loaded weapon, with one bullet in the chamber, under an occupied child car seat where their infant daughter was sitting is inconceivable," said Berlin. "Thankfully, officers were able to remove the weapon before tragedy struck."
Arres commended his department for their proactive efforts in keeping communities safe and thanked Assistant State's Attorneys Sean Kinsella and Jennifer Nielsen for securing charges against Street.
"Arrests like this highlight the fact that our officers aren't just sitting around waiting for the next 9-1-1 call to come in," said Arres. "They're out there patrolling, conducting traffic stops, and making this city safer."
Street's next court appearance is scheduled for March 2, 2026, in front of Judge Ann Celine O'Hallaren Walsh. The public is reminded that Street is innocent until proven guilty and is entitled to a fair trial.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of illegal possession of weapons and the importance of law enforcement's efforts to keep communities safe.
