Mesa Opens Respite Center and Cooling Centers to Offer Heat Relief

~ As temperatures continue to soar into the triple digits, the City of Mesa's Human Services Department is taking action to provide heat relief for its residents. Collaborating with local community partners, the city has activated a day respite center, cooling centers, and hydration stations.
Mayor Mark Freeman emphasized the importance of these services for vulnerable residents, stating, "The City and our community partners know how critical it is to provide heat relief services to our most vulnerable residents." He also urged citizens to check on their neighbors, family, and friends who may be homebound to ensure their safety and well-being during this time.
The day respite center has been relocated to Christ Church at 655 E. University Drive. It will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., offering air-conditioned space, rest areas, meals, homeless navigation services, and other supportive services. The center is also pet-friendly.
In addition to the day respite center, there are several cooling centers available for those seeking refuge from the heat. These centers offer access to water and a safe air-conditioned space. They include Terros Health (Stapley Health Center - Primary Care), Friends at First (Outreach Center), A New Leaf (MesaCAN), ASU MIX Center at Mesa City Center, St. Vincent de Paul - Mesa Dining Room, The Salvation Army - Mesa Citadel Corps, Fountain of Life Church, and Pioneer Park.

For those in need of hydration only, there are several hydration stations located throughout the city. These stations offer bottled water or refill stations and can be found at Mesa Arts Center North Studios Building, Mesa Main Library, Mesa Red Mountain Library, Mesa Dobson Ranch Library, Mesa Gateway Library, Pioneer Park Copa Health - East Valley Campus Copa Health - Florian Logos Outreach Ministries Social Spin - Mesa Terros Health (University) Unhooked Recovery - Outpatient Location.
The City of Mesa also offers various heat safety resources online, including a heat safety webinar. Residents can also find information on severe weather preparedness and limited-income assistance programs.
