Mesa Marks Fix a Leak Week with Home Scavenger Hunt and Prizes

Rezul News/10730193
~ Mesa, AZ - The City of Mesa is urging its residents to take part in the annual EPA WaterSense Fix a Leak Week from March 16-22. This nationwide initiative aims to reduce water waste and lower utility bills by encouraging individuals to check their homes for hidden leaks.

According to Deputy Director of the Environmental and Sustainability Department, Lauren Whittaker, even small leaks can add up to significant water waste. "A single home can waste up to 10,000 gallons of water each year from just one undetected leak; enough to fill a backyard swimming pool," she stated.

The campaign focuses on common household leaks such as dripping faucets and showerheads, faulty toilet flappers, irrigation systems, and worn valves. Businesses are also encouraged to participate by inspecting their kitchens, restrooms, and landscaping systems for potential leaks.

Whittaker emphasized the importance of finding and fixing leaks promptly. "Especially the silent ones you don't notice right away," she added. "It is one of the easiest ways homeowners and businesses can conserve water and save money."

To help residents in their efforts, Mesa has extended the campaign for the entire month of March. As part of this extension, they have launched a Fix a Leak Home Scavenger Hunt. This activity is designed to assist individuals in tracking down sneaky leaks both inside their homes and in outdoor landscapes.

Participants who complete the scavenger hunt form will be entered into a drawing for one of two $100 Ace Hardware gift cards. Additionally, all participants will receive a toilet leak test kit, a leak detection guide, and a Water - Use It Wisely sticker. The contest is open exclusively to Mesa residents and will run through March 31st. Winners will be notified by April 30th.

The city encourages everyone to join in on this challenge by completing the hunt and fixing any identified leaks. By doing so, they can help save water and contribute to the conservation efforts. To learn more and participate in the challenge, visit mesaaz.gov/fixleaks.
