~ Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade has honored two outstanding leaders in the community with the Spirit of Colorado Springs Celebration Awards. The recipients, Martin Wood and Carlos Jimenez, were recognized for their unwavering contributions to the city.
Martin Wood, Senior Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Emeritus at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), was praised for his transformative leadership in higher education. Mayor Yemi commended Wood for his dedication to both UCCS and the broader educational landscape of Colorado Springs, stating that he has set a standard for true community commitment.
Wood's impact on UCCS is evident through his impressive achievements. Under his leadership, the university has secured over $320 million in funding and grown its endowment to nearly $100 million. He has also established significant public-private partnerships that have advanced UCCS's mission. Notable accomplishments include the creation of UCCS Downtown, the establishment of the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience, and positioning the university as a statewide leader in cybersecurity.

Carlos Jimenez was also recognized with a Spirit of Colorado Springs Celebration Award for his dedication to student success and investment in the future of the city. As part of Peak Education, Jimenez embodies the spirit of Colorado Springs through his exceptional contributions in service, mentorship, and leadership.
Mayor Yemi praised Jimenez's commitment to education, including his involvement with local school districts. She stated that through his work, he uplifts lives and opens doors for countless students, ensuring a brighter future for the community.
With 15 years of experience in college admissions, Jimenez has held leadership positions at both Colorado State University Fort Collins and Colorado College. He has also served as President of the Rocky Mountain Association for College Admission Counseling (RMACAC) and chaired various committees for the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). Currently, he is chairing both the Atlas Prep Board and the Teach for America Colorado Regional Board of Directors, in addition to his involvement in multiple community boards.
The Mayor's Office takes pride in recognizing exceptional individuals within the City of Colorado Springs through the Inspirational Leader Spirit of the Springs Award.
