CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago Police Department (CFD) Superintendent Larry Snelling joined together today to celebrate the graduation and promotion of 248 recruits from the Police Academy. The ceremony, held at Navy Pier, was a momentous occasion for both the recruits and the city of Chicago.
During the ceremony, Mayor Johnson expressed his gratitude for those who have chosen to serve their city. "Every Chicagoan who steps up to serve our city strengthens our communities," he stated. He also reassured the recruits that they are not alone in their journey as officers. "My administration is committed to ensuring our officers have the tools and support they need to advance our work of building safe communities across our city," he added.
Superintendent Snelling also commended the new graduates and promotees for their selflessness in choosing this profession. "Those who choose this profession are selfless individuals who run toward danger while others run away," he said. He emphasized that these new officers will be working on behalf of all Chicagoans to safeguard every community and bring justice to victims of crime.

The graduating class consisted of 248 new recruits, as well as 48 newly promoted detectives, 75 sergeants, 25 lieutenants, 15 evidence technicians, four captains, eight field training officers, and 12 members of the command staff.
The six-month training at the Police Academy focused on various areas such as report writing, law, ethics, investigatory stops, control tactics, firearms, and physical fitness. Now that they have graduated from the academy, these recruits will be deployed to districts throughout the city as Probationary Police Officers (PPOs). As PPOs, they will receive field training and respond to calls for service.
In addition to the new recruits, CPD's newest detectives have been assigned to all five detective divisions where they will work on various criminal investigations.
This graduation marks an important step in strengthening the Chicago Police Department and ensuring the safety of all communities in the city. The new officers are ready to serve and protect their city, and Mayor Johnson and Superintendent Snelling have expressed their confidence in their abilities to do so.
