The ceremony included traditional elements such as posting of colors, flag presentation, a 21-gun salute, and a "Last Alarm" tribute. The 21-gun salute was performed by the Long Beach City Honor Guards as a sign of respect for the fallen heroes. The playing of "Taps" also accompanied this tradition. The "Last Alarm" tribute is a time-honored tradition that signifies a firefighter's call to duty and solemnly announces their passing. Today, three rings of a bell served as a moment of reflection for those who have dedicated their lives to protecting others.
Police Chief Wally Hebeish spoke about the bravery and selflessness demonstrated by the fallen officers, saying, "This memorial is a tribute to their courage, compassion, and selflessness that will never be forgotten." He also emphasized that their legacy continues to inspire every member of the department.
Fire Chief Dennis Buchanan echoed these sentiments, stating that each name being remembered represents a life of service defined by courage and an unbreakable commitment to the community. He added, "While their loss is deeply felt, their spirit continues to guide and inspire us as we carry forward their mission to protect and serve."
