Long Beach Launches Community Survey and Leadership Academy for Everyone's Coast
Rezul News/10725026
Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is taking steps to improve access to the coast and create more housing options for its residents. The Community Development Department has announced the launch of Everyone's Coast: A Zone In Update and Mobility Plan (Everyone's Coast), inviting residents, workers, businesses, and stakeholders to participate in the project.
This initiative is part of a citywide effort to update Long Beach's zoning regulations in alignment with the General Plan. It aims to make it easier for people to get around the city and improve access to its beautiful coast. The project will focus on communities in and near the Coastal Zone, particularly those that have faced long-standing challenges.
Everyone's Coast will concentrate on two key areas: Sub-Area One and Sub-Area Two. Sub-Area One includes the coastal community between Alamitos Avenue and Naples Island, south of Broadway. This area will be rezoned to implement the General Plan PlaceTypes adopted by Long Beach City Council in 2019. On the other hand, Sub-Area Two comprises Central Long Beach neighborhoods such as Cambodia Town and Zaferia. It is defined by Pacific Coast Highway to the north, Magnolia to the west, 10th Street to the south, and Ximeno to the east. This area was generally rezoned in 2024 through Zone In: City Core and will now undergo mobility analyses to improve transportation options and access to the city's coast and beaches.

Residents within these two study areas are encouraged to participate by completing a brief survey. As an incentive, they will have a chance to win a $50 gift card. Additionally, survey teams will visit neighborhoods within Sub-Area One to gather stories and feedback from residents. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Khmer for both Sub-Areas.
To further engage with residents, Everyone's Coast will also include a Leadership Academy composed of individuals seeking additional ways to be involved in the project. This six-session program will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about urban planning and zoning decisions in Long Beach, build skills to share their stories and work with City leaders, and connect with their neighbors to build a stronger community in Central and Coastal Long Beach. More information about the Leadership Academy will be announced in the coming weeks.
