Kuester Management Group Highlights Storm Preparation Tips for HOAs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Rezul -- Hurricane season officially began on June 1 and runs through the end of November. Forecasters are predicting another active season this year, in addition to the normal severe storms that roll across the country. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press regarding ways homeowners associations can be better prepared in the event of a damaging storm.

"One way that the HOA can be proactive is to review its insurance policies and ensure that they are current and provide appropriate coverage," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "Remember that flood insurance is often a separate policy that needs to be purchased."

Make sure that all essential documents are backed up as well, says Kuester. Secure files in a safe place, but also have another copy stored on a remote server in case anything should happen to the HOA office. Verify that records include all current assets, especially if the association has made upgrades or renovations.

Have an emergency plan in place for the association, and encourage homeowners to do the same. Where should they go? What should they bring? What steps can be taken to protect buildings and homes? Know who is responsible for what to help maintain order, ensure important tasks are not overlooked, and stay in communication with members.

"The association should also speak with its vendors to see what their policies are regarding storms or natural disasters," says Kuester. "What services do they provide? How quickly do they respond? How do they prioritize requests? Know what to expect once the storm is over and cleanup is beginning."
