Kick off the New Year with the City of Boston's Free Winter Fitness Series starting January 4

~ Bostonians have a variety of healthy activities to look forward to this season, both indoors and outdoors. The Boston Parks and Recreation Department has announced their Winter Fitness Series, which includes a range of classes such as Walking Group, line dancing, Bota Foga, Kids Dance Fitness, Strength and Balance, Tai Chi, Yoga, and more. These classes are designed for all skill levels and ages, with options that are family-friendly and age-friendly. They also welcome those who may be new to fitness.

Interim Commissioner of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, Cathy Baker-Eclipse, expressed her excitement for the upcoming season. "Throughout the winter months, our parks remain active and welcoming places for Bostonians to move, connect, and care for their well-being," she said. She also acknowledged the partnership with the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts that has made these free fitness programs possible.

Bisola Ojikutu MD, MPH, FIDSA, Commissioner of Public Health for the City of Boston also shared her enthusiasm for the Winter Fitness Series. "The Winter Fitness Series is a wonderful opportunity for everyone in Boston to get moving and participate in free and accessible activities that can improve health and well-being," she said. Ojikutu emphasized the importance of resources like these classes in reducing the risk of chronic diseases as part of Live Long and Well - the city's population health equity agenda.
