Juneau: Marine Park Improvements to Begin March 2

~ Juneau, Alaska- The much-awaited reconstruction of Marine Park is set to begin on Monday, March 2. According to the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ), the construction is expected to last until 2026 with an estimated completion date of April 2027. During this time, pedestrians are advised to follow designated routes around the construction site, as indicated by signs.

The project, which aims to revamp the popular park, will be funded entirely by Marine Passenger Fees collected from the cruise ship industry. These funds are restricted by the U.S. Constitution for projects that benefit cruise ships and their passengers.

Planning for the Marine Park rebuild started back in 2023 when CBJ received over a thousand public survey responses and input from various public meetings. Based on this feedback, the final design of the park was created to cater to all ages and seasons, with a central gathering place that can accommodate a variety of community events and activities. The park will feature an open plaza area with Northwest Coast formline inlay, a covered performance stage, ADA accessible picnic tables, seating overlooking the Juneau Seawalk, two vendor kiosks, and a small play area.

To ensure minimal disruption during construction, CBJ is working on relocating regular vendors to new areas. The construction will be carried out by Dawson Construction LLC.
