Juneau: Final Flood Barrier Openings Being Closed This Week

Rezul News/10741047
~ Juneau, Alaska - Crews have officially begun the process of closing the remaining gaps in the Phase 1 and Phase 2 HESCO flood barriers along the Mendenhall River. These gaps were previously left open to allow public access to certain trails, but with the completion of both phases earlier this month, all entry points have now been closed until after the flood.

The City and Borough of Juneau is reminding residents to stay away from the barriers and evacuate the advised area when alerted. The closures are necessary for safety reasons as annual glacial lake outburst flooding is expected.
