The decision to declare an Air Emergency was made after particulate matter levels exceeded air quality standards over the past 24 hours. This poses a significant health risk for individuals with respiratory issues as fine particulates from woodsmoke can cause serious harm when inhaled. Children, elders, and those with breathing difficulties are particularly vulnerable.

CBJ staff will continue to monitor air quality levels throughout the night and into tomorrow. The emergency will be lifted as soon as levels return to healthy standards.

For updates on the status of this Air Emergency, concerned individuals can call 907-586-5252, option 4 or visit CBJ's Facebook page and Juneau.gov. It is important for residents in the affected area to adhere to these restrictions for their own safety and well-being.
