Idaho: Gov. Little announces goal to double Registered Apprenticeships by 2029
Rezul News/10734013
Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little has set a new goal for the state of Idaho to double the number of Registered Apprenticeships by the end of 2029. This ambitious goal aims to increase the current number of 4,000 apprenticeships to 8,000, in order to further strengthen the state's workforce development and career training efforts.
The announcement was made today by Governor Little, who highlighted the success and momentum that Idaho has experienced in these areas. He stated that investing in practical and workforce-driven solutions has proven to create real opportunities for people and results for the economy. With this new goal, Idaho is determined to continue this positive trend and better support its workers while meeting the growing needs of employers.
Registered Apprenticeships offer individuals the chance to earn a paycheck while gaining valuable skills that are in high demand. This allows them to build long-term careers without accumulating significant debt. The state's focus on expanding these apprenticeship opportunities is a testament to its commitment towards providing its citizens with sustainable employment options.

In addition to this goal, Idaho has also achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 4,000 active apprenticeships statewide. This marks a major step towards expanding hands-on career pathways for workers and strengthening the talent pipeline for employers.
Furthermore, Idaho has seen record participation in its workforce training program known as Idaho LAUNCH. This program connects students with education and training opportunities that align with high-demand careers. For the upcoming academic year of 2026-2027, over 10,600 offers were awarded to students who applied for a LAUNCH grant - an increase from previous years. This shows that more young Idahoans are enrolling in LAUNCH and choosing pathways that lead directly to jobs in critical industries across the state.
Wendi Secrist, Executive Director of the Idaho Workforce Development Council, emphasized how programs like Registered Apprenticeships and Idaho LAUNCH are opening doors for citizens and helping employers access a skilled and reliable workforce. She believes that when businesses have the talent they need, they can grow, create jobs, and continue investing in communities.

Jani Revier, Director of the Idaho Department of Labor, also expressed her support for the state's efforts to double apprenticeships and expand Idaho LAUNCH. She believes that these initiatives will provide more opportunities for workers, certainty for employers, and contribute to a stronger and more resilient economy in the future.
Governor Little reiterated that these efforts align with his broader commitment to strengthening the working class, respecting the dignity of work, and ensuring that Idaho remains one of the best places in the nation to live, work, and do business. These workforce initiatives also align with President Donald Trump's Talent Strategy for America - a national effort to expand skills-based training and prepare the workforce for the demands of a modern economy.
With this new goal in place, Idaho is determined to continue its momentum in workforce development and career training. By providing more opportunities for workers and supporting employers' needs, the state aims to build a stronger economy for its citizens now and in the future.
