Idaho Falls Residents Invited to Share Feedback on Elm Street Project

~ The City of Idaho Falls is making plans to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Birch Street and South Boulevard. As part of these efforts, the city will be constructing a roundabout and is inviting community members to an open house to learn more about the project and provide feedback.

The open house will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the City Annex Building's Council Chambers on 680 Park Avenue. Residents will have the opportunity to review project information, see the design, and ask questions to city staff.

For those unable to attend in person, comments can be submitted via email until Monday, Feb. 16. The city encourages public input as an important aspect of the project.

The proposed roundabout is expected to reduce conflict points and keep traffic moving efficiently, ultimately lowering the likelihood of serious crashes. Other key improvements include realigning the intersection for better visibility, removing some on-street parking for improved sight lines, and upgrading pedestrian and bicycle crossings for increased safety.

Construction is set to begin after Fourth of July celebrations and is estimated to be completed by late fall. The city recognizes that new traffic patterns can feel unfamiliar and will continue to provide educational information to help residents navigate the roundabout confidently.

This project complements the success of another roundabout located just south of this intersection on Elm Street. The city has seen improved traffic movement and safety in that area since its construction.
