Idaho Falls: Body Camera & Information Release from December 22, 2025 Officer Involved Shooting

On December 22nd, 2025, Idaho Falls Police Officers responded to a domestic disturbance. During the call, the suspect, who was armed with a knife, was shot by an Idaho Falls Police Officer. Today, the Idaho Falls Police Department is releasing body camera video, the 911 call, and other details about the incident. This information is being released in an effort to maintain transparency with the community we serve, especially regarding serious police incidents like this one.

A video release, which includes the initial 911 call and the body camera footage from the primary officer, is available here for those who would like to view it. The video does include both video and written descriptions of an officer involved shooting. The video is graphic in nature and is not suitable for all viewers. Viewer discretion is advised.



At 5:05 a.m. on December 22nd, 2025, a man called 911 and reported that his adult daughter, who is pregnant, had texted him that her boyfriend was threatening her and that she had asked him to call police.

Officers responded to the apartment, 737 Cleveland Street, arriving at 5:17 a.m. Two officers knocked at the door, which was answered by Eduardo Trejo De Arcos. Officers identified themselves as police officers and stated that they were there for a complaint about some noise. De Arcos let the officers into the apartment and acknowledged that he and the victim had been arguing.

The primary officer went to the bedroom to speak to the victim, while a second officer stayed in the front room with the suspect. A third officer arrived a short time later, checked in with the primary officer, then returned to the front room.

The primary officer spoke to the victim for a few minutes. The victim told the officer that she and De Arcos had been arguing all night and that he had been threatening her. The victim stated that De Arcos said he was going to kill her, and that he had choked her with one hand while holding a large knife near her head in his other hand. She also stated that he had taken her phone after she had texted her father.

The victim described the knife as a big silver knife with ridges on the side. Later, after the incident ended, investigators measured the knife and determined it was 14 inches long end-to-end with an 8-inch blade. The victim told the officer she believed De Arcos had taken the knife with him to the front room when officers knocked on the door.

The primary officer returned to the front room, turning the light on when he entered the room, and spoke to De Arcos about what had happened before officers arrived. De Arcos stated that he and the victim had been arguing and that he had pushed her.

The officer at that time, after returning to the front room and turning the light on, could see the knife in a dresser drawer that was sitting on the couch across the front room from De Arcos. De Arcos told officers that he had brought the knife to the front room when he came to answer the door "just in case" her father came over and stated, "I told her I'd kill her dad if he came over here." De Arcos denied choking the victim or threatening her with the knife.

The primary officer informed De Arcos that he was under arrest. De Arcos lunged forward toward the knife and was able to grab it while a physical struggle with officers began. The primary officer yelled for De Arcos to drop the knife twice, but he did not and continued to struggle with officers.

Officers were able to disengage from the physical fight and pushed De Arcos away from them into the kitchen. De Arcos turned back toward the officers with the knife raised in his right hand. The primary officer fired one shot from his service weapon, striking De Arcos in the left side of his chest.

Officers told De Arcos again to drop the knife. De Arcos dropped the knife and fell to the floor. Officers radioed to dispatch that a shooting had occurred and asked for EMS to respond. They secured De Arcos and began providing emergency medical aid. EMS arrived a short time later and took over lifesaving efforts; however, De Arcos was declared deceased on scene.

The East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force (EICITF) responded to conduct an external investigation into the shooting. The EICITF is a team of investigators and professional staff from regional law enforcement agencies who investigate police use of force and other critical incidents. For this incident, the Rexburg Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from other regional law enforcement agencies. That investigation is ongoing and may take several more weeks to complete, which is normal for these types of investigations.

The Bonneville County Prosecutor's Office will review the investigation to determine if the officer's actions were justified under the law.

Within the first few hours of the incident, the Idaho Falls Police Department released preliminary information about the incident to the public. Today, the Idaho Falls Police Department is releasing additional information about the incident, including the 911 call, body camera footage, and the identity of the suspect and the involved police officer. The Idaho Falls Police Department typically waits approximately two weeks after the incident to release this information to allow the EICITF time to complete initial interviews and investigative steps, to allow next of kin notifications to be made, and to share information with the families of those involved.

Eduardo Trejo De Arcos was a 26-year-old resident of Idaho Falls.

The primary officer involved in this incident, who fired his service weapon, is Officer Eric Rose. Officer Rose has been an Idaho Falls Police Officer for 13 years. He is a Firearms Instructor, a Less Lethal Munitions Instructor, a member of the IFPD SWAT Team, and has held several other roles during his tenure at IFPD.

The prepared video release is structured in a way to help viewers clearly understand the facts of the incident and does include limited edits (blurring of the suspect's injuries, for example) to lessen the graphic nature of the content, and redaction of the victim's personal information. The raw body camera footage, 911 call, and related information, with only the redactions required by Idaho law, can be formally requested on the Idaho Falls Police website. The full investigative report prepared by the East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force will be available for release after the investigation is completed and reviewed by the Bonneville County Prosecutor.

"Domestic disturbance calls can be some of the most serious and most volatile calls that officers respond to," said Idaho Falls Chief of Police Bryce Johnson. "Our officers responded to over 900 domestic disturbance calls last year, with the vast majority resolved peacefully, even when someone is arrested. We encourage anyone who may be a victim of domestic violence to seek help from resources like the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center, and report crimes to police."
