Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little proudly announced today that Idaho has once again secured a spot among the top 10 states in the nation for having the lowest overall state and local tax burden. This achievement further solidifies the state's reputation for being fiscally responsible and promoting pro-growth policies.
In a statement, Governor Little emphasized the hard work of Idahoans and their right to keep more of their hard-earned money. He credited this accomplishment to disciplined budgeting, responsible policies, and a relentless focus on taxpayers. The governor also assured that his administration will continue to provide tax relief while investing in important priorities that keep Idaho strong.
The latest tax burden comparative report published by the Idaho State Tax Commission compared Idaho's state and local taxes with those of other states and the District of Columbia. According to this report, Idaho ranks 46th nationally in terms of overall state and local tax burden when measured by the percentage of income that goes towards paying taxes. It also ranks 46th when comparing taxes paid per person. A ranking of 51st indicates the lowest tax burden.

Among the 13 western states, Idaho boasts the second-lowest tax burden when measured by the percentage of income that goes towards paying taxes and when comparing taxes paid per person. In addition, Idaho taxpayers pay significantly less than the national average - 16.6% less as a share of personal income and 29% less on a per-person basis.
The taxes included in this comparison are individual income, corporate income, sales, property, and motor vehicle taxes.
