Here's how California Paralympians represented Team USA at Milano Cortina 2026
Rezul News/10730041
~ The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games have come to a close, and Team USA has once again proven their dominance on the world stage. Among the elite athletes representing the United States were three exceptional individuals from California, whose resilience and dedication to their sport have inspired audiences worldwide.
Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his pride in these athletes, stating that they represent the very best of California and the nation. The Golden State played a significant role in Team USA's success at the games, contributing to a total of 24 medals for the team.
One of these outstanding athletes is 20-year-old Kate Delson from San Diego. Delson, who is the youngest member of Team USA's Para snowboard team, brought home both gold and silver medals from Milano Cortina. She has been snowboarding since she was just six years old in California's Eastern Sierras and serves as an inspiration to future generations of athletes.
Jen Lee, a four-time Paralympic gold medalist, also represented California at the games. Originally from the Bay Area, Lee brought home another medal for Team USA in sled hockey. In addition to his commitment to sports, Lee is also honored for his service as a U.S. Army Veteran.

Matthew Brewer, a native of Huntington Beach, competed in Para alpine skiing in the sitting classification for Team USA. As a returning Paralympian and former nationally ranked snowboarder, Brewer's journey through adversity has led him back to compete among the top athletes in the world. His perseverance and dedication embody the spirit of the Paralympic movement.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games showcased not only incredible athletic abilities but also highlighted the strength and determination of adaptive sports. These three Californians are shining examples of this resilience and serve as role models for communities across the state.
As Governor Newsom condemns President Trump's exploitation of the Iran war crisis, he also highlights the mental health resources available for veterans during this difficult time. The conflict in the Middle East may trigger memories of combat and loss for many, and Newsom wants to ensure that they have access to support.
In other news, a recent report by the Department of Water Resources has outlined significant improvements in California's efforts to protect and recharge groundwater supplies. This progress is crucial as the state continues to recover from historic droughts.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games may have come to an end, but the achievements of these three Californians will continue to inspire and motivate others for years to come. Their dedication and perseverance serve as a reminder that anything is possible with hard work and determination.
