TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a recent announcement, Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed three new members and reappointed one member to the Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees. The newly appointed members are Christie Bassett, Jeffrey Beelaert, and Jack Harrell, while Ilya Shapiro has been reappointed.

Christie Bassett, EdD, is a self-employed Education Consultant and Professional Learning Facilitator. She is an active member of her community and has previously served on the Florida Education Practices Committee and the Keep Florida Learning Committee. In 2015, she was recognized as the State of Florida Teacher of the Year. Bassett holds an associate degree from Polk State College, a bachelor's degree in art education and a master's degree in education from Florida Southern College, and a doctorate in education from Walden University.

Jeffrey Beelaert brings a wealth of experience to the board as a Partner at Givens Pursley. He has previously served as a Deputy Associate Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice and as a Partner at Stein Mitchell Beato & Missner, LLP. Beelaert is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the United States Naval Academy, a master's degree in public policy from Duke University, and a juris doctor from the University of North Carolina.

Jack Harrell is currently the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at Harrell's LLC. He is also actively involved in his community as Chair of the Florida Polytechnic University Foundation Board of Directors. Harrell earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and management from Samford University and his master's degree in turf and turfgrass management from Clemson University.

Ilya Shapiro has been reappointed to the board after serving as Senior Fellow and Director of Constitutional Studies for the Manhattan Institute. He is also involved in his community as Chairman of the Mississippi Justice Institute Board of Advisors and a member of the Jewish Policy Center Board of Fellows. Shapiro holds a bachelor's degree in public and international affairs from Princeton University, a master's degree in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a juris doctor from the University of Chicago.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate. The Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing the operations and policies of the university, ensuring its continued success in providing high-quality education to its students. With these new appointments, Governor DeSantis has chosen individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences to contribute to the growth and development of Florida Polytechnic University.
