DENVER ~ In a surprising announcement today, Governor Jared Polis revealed that Kim Bimestefer, the Executive Director of the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF), will be stepping down from her position in state government. Bimestefer has been in this role since January 2018, serving under both Governors Hickenlooper and Polis. She is the longest-serving HCPF Executive Director, having dedicated nine years to the position. Her last day will be on April 10.
Governor Polis expressed his gratitude for Bimestefer's dedication and passion for improving health care in Colorado. He commended her for her efforts to reduce health care costs and increase efficiency in the state. Under her leadership, Colorado has made significant strides in increasing price transparency, lowering hospital and prescription drug costs, and holding the health care industry accountable. During her time as Executive Director, Bimestefer focused on improving Medicaid oversight and access for members. She successfully increased member network access by over 50% and achieved historic satisfaction rates for both members and providers. She also implemented cost trend systems to assist with budget decisions and played a crucial role in the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic by protecting those covered by Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program.
In a statement, Bimestefer expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Executive Director of HCPF and as a member of Governor Polis' Cabinet and Lt. Governor Primavera's Health Cabinet. She described this chapter of her career as the most important and meaningful one yet, highlighting her dedication to helping Coloradans receive necessary care during difficult times. Bimestefer also expressed confidence in her successor's ability to continue navigating challenges with the support of HCPF leaders and staff under Governor Polis' and Lt.
