Governor Polis Marks Dobbs Anniversary: While Other States Restrict Healthcare Colorado Strengthens Access

DENVER ~ On this day four years ago, the United States Supreme Court made a decision that would have a lasting impact on the reproductive rights of Americans. In a 5-4 ruling, the court overturned Roe v. Wade, a landmark case that had protected a woman's right to choose for over 50 years. This decision not only stripped individuals of their right to make personal healthcare decisions, but it also inserted government control into one of the most private and intimate aspects of life.

Governor Jared Polis of Colorado recognizes the significance of this anniversary and the importance of protecting reproductive rights. In a statement released today, he emphasized Colorado's commitment to ensuring every Coloradan has access to safe, legal, and protected reproductive healthcare. - Abortion Medication Access on College Campuses (HB26-1335): This law requires public and private higher education institutions with student health centers to provide on-site abortion medication by 2026.

- Coverage for Pregnancy-Related Services (SB25-183): This law implements Amendment 79 and protects the right to an abortion in Colorado's constitution by 2025.

- Legally Protected Health-Care Activity Protections (SB25-129): This law enhances protections for abortion and gender-affirming care by 2025.

- Protections for Accessing Reproductive Health Care (SB23-188): This law protects healthcare providers from discrimination and adverse actions for providing or assisting in the provision of legal healthcare in Colorado by 2023.

- Increasing Access to Reproductive Health Care (SB23-189): This law expands access to reproductive health care services in both commercial insurance and Medicaid by 2023.

Executive Order D 2022 021 declares a disaster emergency due to the nationwide infant formula shortage and provides emergency funds for the free distribution of donor human milk across Colorado through a partnership with Mothers' Milk Bank through Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation.
