DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis proudly raised the Mexico National Flag at the Colorado State Capitol today to commemorate the second annual Colorado-Mexico Friendship Day. This event serves as a reminder of the strong and enduring partnership between Colorado and Mexico, which has greatly benefited both economies, cultures, and communities.

During the flag-raising ceremony, Governor Polis expressed his appreciation for the longstanding friendship between the two regions. He stated, "In Colorado, we value our longstanding friendship and partnership with Mexico that strengthens our economy, our culture, and our communities." He also highlighted the history of collaboration in agriculture and emphasized the importance of working together to promote shared values.

Mexico is currently Colorado's top export partner, with $1.7 billion in goods exported to Mexico in 2025. This accounts for 15% of Colorado's total goods exports. The majority of these exports were beef and pork products, making up 33% of the total.

In addition to economic ties, Mexico also plays a significant role in Colorado's tourism industry. In 2024, almost 300,000 visitors from Mexico contributed to Colorado's robust tourism economy. This represents a 9% increase from the previous year and a 33% increase since the start of the pandemic.

The strong relationship between Colorado and Mexico is further strengthened by recent developments in air travel. In late 2025, United Airlines launched year-round nonstop flights between Denver and Mexico City. And just last month, Volaris announced a new twice-weekly service between Queretaro and Denver set to begin on June 3rd, 2026. This marks the first time an air carrier has flown between Denver International Airport and Querétaro Intercontinental Airport.

As Governor Polis raised the Mexican flag high above the state capitol building today, it was clear that this friendship will continue to thrive for generations to come. The bond between Colorado and Mexico is a testament to the power of collaboration and mutual respect between nations.
