Governor Newsom adds additional pre-deployed resources to Southern California in advance of storm
Rezul News/10720471
~ LOS ANGELES - As the first significant statewide storm of the season approaches, Governor Gavin Newsom has taken proactive measures to protect California communities. In a press conference today, he announced the pre-deployment of additional resources and personnel to Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties.
This decision comes as strong storms continue to impact the state, causing concerns for potential mudslides and flash flooding in areas that have recently been affected by wildfires. The pre-deployment efforts aim to minimize the potential impact of these natural disasters and protect communities.
"We don't wait to react when severe weather threatens our communities - we get ahead of it," said Governor Newsom. "California's world-class resources and highly skilled personnel are essential elements of the state's emergency rescue and response framework."
The total pre-deployment in these four counties now brings the total number of resources to over 400 personnel, including 29 engines, four Urban Search & Rescue companies, eight dozers, five Swiftwater teams, four helicopters, and seven dispatchers. These resources will be available from Thursday, Nov. 13 at 8 a.m. through Sunday, Nov. 16 at 8 a.m.

Local fire agencies have identified areas that may require additional support and have submitted requests to the state for assistance. The staging locations and response assignments will be coordinated by local officials. The California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System will also remain available for any additional resource requests during an incident.
Governor Newsom urges all Californians to take proactive steps to stay safe during this storm season. Some recommendations include signing up for emergency alerts from local officials, monitoring trusted sources for information on mudslides and debris flows in burn scar areas, preparing an emergency go-bag with essential supplies and important documents, avoiding travel if possible or driving at reduced speeds if necessary.
He also reminds citizens to never walk or drive through floodwaters as it can be dangerous, to avoid parking under trees or power lines during high winds or heavy rain, and to check on neighbors who may need assistance.

In other news, Governor Newsom has been championing historic climate action at the global climate summit in Brazil. As his time at COP30 comes to a close, California continues to reaffirm its steadfast climate leadership while the federal government remains inactive. The state has also seen improvements in graduation rates and academic achievements following significant investments and reforms in TK-12 public education.
Furthermore, Governor Newsom announced that California has reached record growth in battery storage and clean energy leadership at COP30. While the federal government clings to fossil fuels and outsources clean energy manufacturing and jobs, California is building a cleaner future at home with nearly 17,000 megawatts of battery storage powering the state.
