Governor Abbott Surveys Flood-Damaged Areas, Provides Update On Texas' Severe Weather Response

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas took to the skies today to survey the damage caused by severe floods that hit the state last week. Accompanied by Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd and Texas Military Department Adjutant General Thomas Suelzer, Governor Abbott conducted an aerial assessment of the Kerrville area, observing the impact on neighborhoods, roadways, bridges, and other critical infrastructure.

During his aerial tour, Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude to all first responders, volunteers, and fellow Texans for their swift and effective response to the floods. He also provided an update on the ongoing efforts to clean up and rebuild affected communities. The state is working closely with local officials to expedite debris removal and accelerate the rebuilding process.

According to Governor Abbott, approximately 490 homes have been identified as sustaining damage from the floods. He urged those who wish to assist their fellow Texans in need to donate through rebuildtx.org.

After completing his aerial assessment, Governor Abbott met with emergency management officials to receive updates on search and rescue operations, debris removal, infrastructure restoration, and recovery efforts. He reassured Texans that the state is providing all necessary resources including personnel, aircrafts, boats, high-water vehicles, and other assets to support local response efforts and assist affected families.

The Governor also reminded residents in impacted areas to stay informed by monitoring local forecasts and avoiding flooded roadways. He emphasized the importance of following guidance from state and local officials.

Joining Governor Abbott at a press conference were TDEM Chief Kidd, General Suelzer, Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, local emergency management officials, as well as other state and local leaders supporting response and recovery efforts.

The State of Texas remains in an elevated response posture as they continue working closely with local, state, and federal partners until the threat has passed and affected communities are on the path to full recovery.
